Born in Siberia in 1993, Matvey started to study flute with his grandmother, continuing his education in Hannover and Munich with Prof. Andrea Lieberknecht.
Matvey is the first flutist in history who won the 1st prize in woodwinds category of the world famous Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow and St. Petersburg in 2019.
He is also a prize winner of such competitions as international «Aeolus» competition, ARD International Music competition (Munich), international flute competition in Krakow, Unisa International music competition and many other competitions.
At the age of 20 Matvey joined Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich as Co-Principal Solo flute, where he worked under the baton of such prominent conductors such as Paavo Järvi, David Zinman, Bernhard Haitink, Franz Welser-Möst.
Since 2022/2023 season he holds a Principal flute position in the SWR Sinfonieorchester Stuttgart under the direction of Teodor Currentzis.
In addition, he enjoys an extensive international career as soloist and chamber musician. Matvey has appeared as a soloist with Tonhalle Orchester Zurich, Mariinsky Orchestra, Düsseldorf Symphony Orchestra, Nuremberg Philharmonic Orchestra and many others.
He has also toured in Japan performing Ibert flute concerto with PMF Orchestra under the baton of Maestro Valery Gergiev in July and August 2019 in Tokyo «Suntory Hall», Sapporo «Kitara» Hall and Kawasaki «Muza» Hall.
Matvey is a committed chamber musician. He regularly gives recitals and performs at following festivals: Pyeongchang music festival, Molyvos festival, Flute Virtuosi festival, Davos festival, festival «PAAX GNP» and many others.
Since October 2021 Matvey is an exclusive Yamaha Artist.
